Brachymetatarsia

Brachymetatarsia sufferers are saddled by a condition that compromises the foot’s metatarsal bones.  The Brachymetatarsia’s most common position is within the fourth of the metatarsals.  The compromised toe appears short when examining the foot.  Such a condition can impact one foot or both feet.  Brachymetatarsia is especially common in women.  If you notice you feel pain along the bottom of your feet when walking, it might be the result of excessive weight distribution to the initial foot.  Such pai is a symptom of Brachymetatarsia.

Brachymetatarsia can be treated with surgical intervention.  The purpose of surgical intervention is to extend the metatarsal bone to the optimal length through a cutting of the bone referred to as the osteotomy.  Such surgical intervention occurs with either an acute or delayed lengthening.  Gradual lengthening is performed at home with the guidance of our medical professionals.

Alternatively, acute lengthening is a one-stage operation that empowers the surgeon to extend the bone length in a single procedure, generating space between bone ends.  Bone graft obtained from the patient or from a graft provided by a donor fills the open space.  If you have foot or ankle pain of any sort, reach out to us today at (239) 573-9200 to schedule an appointment.
