Posterior Tibial Dysfunction

The treatment of posterior tibial dysfunction hinges on the severity of patient symptoms.  Do not attempt a self-assessment on your own.  Contact Foot & Ankle Center in Cape Coral, FL at (239) 573-9200 to schedule an appointment and we will determine if you have PTD.  If you are diagnosed with PTD, don’t fret as there is the potential for it to dissipate without surgical intervention.  The doctor might recommend a period of ice and rest.

If necessary, medication will be considered.  As an example, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) decrease inflammation and pain.  However, some are not eligible for NSAIDs so be sure to be forthright about your medical history, current medications and health when discussing PTD treatment modality options with our doctors.

Some patients with PTD have found orthotics in the form of braces or shoe inserts that support the tendon/arch along with physical therapy enhance the condition all the more, ultimately preventing surgical intervention.  Certain patients testify to the merits of physical therapy exercises that bolster the tendon all the more.  Meet with our team and we’ll identify the treatment modality optimal for you.
